Experimental Study of Fluorine Mobilization from Igneous Rocks

Abstract— The paper presents experimental data on fluorine leaching from igneous rocks (dacite, rhyodacite, and trachyrhyolite) and greisen with distilled water and 0.01 M HCl, CH 3 COONa, NaHCO 3 , and Na 2 CO 3 solutions. Fluorine leaching is proved to be proportional to its content in the rocks and depends on pH of the aqueous solution: the equilibrium concentrations of fluoride are minimal in the near-neutral solutions and increase in acidic and alkaline ones. The spatial variability of fluorine concentrations in waters of the hypergenesis zone is likely controlled primarily by the petrographic composition of rocks and processes that determine pH of the aqueous solutions.
