ABSTRACT

In this study, a combined numerical and experimental study on the hole-blanking test (HBT) and hole-expansion test (HET) of ferrite bainite steel (FB590) sheets was conducted. Three-dimensional (3D) finite element (FE) models of HBT and HET were created based on a CrachFEM fracture model, which combines the ductile and the shear fracture criterion. The HBT with various punch/die clearances were simulated using ABAQUS commercial software. Then, the simulation results of the HBT were transferred to the HET environment for the dynamic simulation of HET until the fracture occurs. The effects of punch/die clearance on the hole-edge conditions after blanking and the hole-expansion ratio (HER) with a burr up and down orientations of blanking were investigated. Experiments of HBT and HET were carried out to verify the FE models. The simulation results showed that the punch/die clearance and burr orientation significantly influence the shear/fracture zone, hole edge parameters, and HER of ferrite bainite steel (FB590) sheets.
