Thermal, structural, and metallization properties of 0.95[50B2O3-30BaO-(20-x)ZnO-xBi2O3]+0.05V2O5 glasses

Glasses with molar composition of 0.95[50B2O3-30BaO-(20-x)ZnO-xBi2O3]+0.05V2O5, x = 0, 5, 10, 15, and 20, are prepared. When the Bi2O3/ZnO ratio increases, some [BO4] units transform to the [BO3] units with the increase of non-bridging oxygens. The borate network is depolymerized and weakened, which may account for the decrease of the glass transition temperature. Aluminum pastes containing the glasses show good adhesion between Al powders and the SiNx/Al2O3 passivation layer after firing. The SiNx layer is only slightly deteriorated. Bi crystallites are observed from the glass matrix by the interfacial reaction.
