Although telehealth techniques have been widely adopted across healthcare specialties, most neuropsychologists have not routinely engaged in the practice of remote assessment despite the growing evidence base supporting the use of phone- and video-based teleneuropsychology (TeleNP) that began in the 1980s (Hammers, Stolwyk, Harder, & Cullum, 2020). The COVID-19 pandemic propelled global interest in TeleNP and collaborations were forged to meet the challenges and opportunities faced by all. Rapid Inter Organizational Practice Committee (IOPC) COVID-19 TeleNP advocacy team efforts led to updated TeleNP practice recommendations (Bilder et al., 2020) and proposed models of care (Postal et al., 2020) as well as reimbursement of TeleNP services to ensure sustainability of practices across the country. Professional organizations quickly launched online webinars to address a complex array of professional issues presented by COVID-19 including topics to review the evidence base for TeleNP, improve competency in the provision of remote services, manage risk, and consider practical and ethical challenges, among others, bringing together thousands of professionals focused on the same issues from around the globe.
