Novel photocontrollable photonic crystals based on porous silicon filled with photochromic azobenzene‐containing nematic mixture were elaborated and their great potential for the creation of photoswitchable materials is demonstrated by Alexey Bobrovsky and co‐workers in article number 2001267. UV‐irradiation of these photonic crystals causes cis–trans isomerization of the azobenzene chromophores and a shift of photonic band gap to longer wavelengths. This process is completely reversible under visible light action and can be repeated many times. The obtained composites can be considered as new promising materials for photonic applications.
