Experimental Study on a Precast Concrete Beam-to-column Joint with Floor Slab

Abstract

A comparison test between a precast concrete middle column joint and another cast-in-place middle column joint is presented. A keyed joint is used between the beam and the column for the precast beam-to-column joint. The beam longitudinal rebar is connected by rolling straight thread sleeve. The two full-scale specimens are tested when subjected to cyclic loading. The seismic behavior of a prefabricated beam-to-column joint is studied, including the failure mode, hysteretic curves, skeleton curves, ductility and energy dissipation. The test results show that the mechanical performance of the precast concrete joint is reliable, and its seismic performance is similar to that of the cast-in-place joint. The test also shows that the contribution of the steel rebar in the floor slab for the negative bending moment bearing capacity of the beam is remarkable and cannot be ignored. Otherwise, the requirements of the “strong column weak beam” concept cannot be met.
