Abstract

Formation damage is caused by invasion of the external reactive solid or liquid fluid into the reservoir which reduces the productivity of pay zone. This study investigates the efficiency of a biodegradable product which is stem peels powder of Grewia optiva tree as noninvasive fluid additive (NIFA) in the water-based drilling fluids. All the equipment were periodically calibrated with API (American Petroleum Institute) standard procedures in order to yield accurate and authentic results. The experimental outcomes showed that after hot rolling at 100 °C for 18 hours SPPGO additive reduced formation invasion of drilling fluid by 56.3% as compared to base mud under 500 psi pressure while existing noninvasive fluid additive (NIFA) reduced invasion by 52.7% in water-based drilling fluid.
