Removal of methyl orange from aqueous solutions by a novel, high efficient and low cost copper-modified nanoalum

Abstract

In this work, copper-modified nanoalum as a new natural-based sorbent was synthesized and characterized. Then, it was applied for methyl orange removal from water samples. The effect of some parameters such as initial dye concentration, pH, adsorbent dose and temperature on the removal efficiency was investigated. Under optimal condition, the maximum removal was obtained about 90%. The studies showed the adsorption of methyl orange on the surface of modified nanoalum obeys from Langmuir model with the adsorption capacity 139 mg/g. Therefore, this novel natural-based sorbent can be proposed as a low cost and commercially available adsorbent in the removal of azo dyes such as methyl orange from wastewaters.
