Using China's provincial panel data exploring the interaction between Socio-economic and Eco-environment system

Abstract No matter Socio-economic system or Eco-environment system, both closely bonded up with environment pollution. With the continuous degrading of the natural environment, to understand the coordination development between Socio-economic and Eco-environment systems is of great importance towards environment improvement. In order to know the coupling coordination state of each province in China, coupling coordination model is used to figure out it. In addition, the impact of per capital GDP (Gross Domestic Product) on haze pollution is further explored using difference Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) method with the panel data from 2010 to 2016. Results show that most provinces located in moderate coupling coordination phase based on average of the seven years’ data, Socio-economic system belongs to advanced type and exceed the tolerance of Eco-environment system. The coupling coordination degree floated softly, nearly no big change during the researched seven years. Unbalanced development between Socio-economic and Eco-environment systems in most provinces is discovered, performing better in the Socio-economic system and worse in Eco-environment system. Socio-economic system presented an increase trend while Eco-environment in a decrease trend. The impact of per capital GDP on haze pollution confirmed the relationship of “inverted-U” shaped Environmental Kuznets Curve (EKC). Urbanization restrained the haze pollution is found at the same time. The empirical findings provide a scientific basis and guidance for exploring the coordination relationship between Socio-economic and Eco-environment, adding evidence of the existence of “inverted-U” shaped EKC between per capital GDP and haze pollution.
