Nanoparticle-Loaded Oral Fast-Dissolving Film: New Realistic Approach of Prospective Generation in Drug Delivery - A Review

In drug delivery an oral way is most perfect way for administration of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) because of ease of management lead to high level of patient compliance. More than 50% of APIs are facing the major assignment with the design of orally administered dosage form that lies with their poor aqueous solubility and poor oral bioavailability mainly biopharmaceutical classification system (BCS) II and IV APIs. In this review we focus the concept of oral fast dissolving films (OFDFs) incorporating nanoparticles (NPs). In this approach a variety of polymers has been used for drug delivery to increase the therapeutic advantages, while minimizing the toxic and the adverse drug effect. Because the NPs present within the nanometer size range protect the APIs against the in vitro and in vivo degradation and improve pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of different varieties of drug molecules that are able to achieve targeted delivery. Concomitantly, the dosage forms are available in tablet, capsule, suspension and emulsion form in market, but these are not comfortable for all age group of patients. Depend upon the dose accuracy, patient compliance and therapeutic efficacy the NPs are further incorporated into OFDFs. The OFDFs are superior to oral fast-disintegrating tablets (OFDTs) to overcome the swallowing problem for dysphagia conditions mainly peadiatric and geriatric patients and it provide excellent dissolution profile, periodically convenience of administration, safety and efficacy. There is a huge potential in the market prospect of this innovative pharmaceutical dosage form and it is also targeted.
