Due to the threshold voltage of diode switches, existing symmetrical voltage equalizers suffer from voltage drops across battery cells. To overcome this problem, this letter presents a novel voltage equalizer for series‐connected batteries. The proposed inductor‐less cross‐coupled topology allows the voltage of each battery cell to be balanced evenly without a threshold voltage drop, because no diode switch is required to design the proposed voltage equalizer. The effectiveness of the proposed voltage equalizer is confirmed through experiments. © 2020 Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Published by Wiley Periodicals LLC.
