Steeply Inclined Vibrational Screen in Coal Preparation at Coke Plants

Abstract

A steeply inclined vibrational screen may be used to sort coal batch (moisture content 11.2%) with a high content of the ≤3 mm class (70.7%). The influence of the screen’s structural and dynamic parameters on its performance is investigated. On the basis of experiment design, industrial research is undertaken, and the results are statistically analyzed. The efficiency of screening, the clogging of the screening surface, and the enlargement of the target product are determined as a function of the inclination of the screening surface, its type, and the acceleration of the drum vibrations. The optimal design is a steeply inclined screen with a freely supported screening surface (50° inclination), when the acceleration of the drum vibrations is 33 m/s2. In that case, the efficiency of coal sorting is 78%, with clogging of the screening surface and up to 1% enlargement of the target product.
