Predictive study of succinic acid transport via nanofiltration membranes using a Maxwell–Stefan approach

Transport of organic acids through nanofiltration membranes varies considerably under different conditions. In the present work, a Maxwell–Stefan approach coupled to the Henderson–Hasselbach equation was applied to describe succinic acid permeation through nanofiltration membranes in binary and ternary solutions. Permeate flux and solute rejection were evaluated under several test conditions, by modifying variables such as pH, gauge pressure, succinic acid concentration and presence of other solute (glucose, as a neutral solute).
