Aiming to test whether the polynomial fit methodology would work for a hard magnet, the descending and ascending branches of the hysteresis curves measured for an Alnico II sample were fitted with polynomials of varying degrees. The fits were of very good quality, and the resulting polynomial coefficients revealed symmetrical minor loops. The polynomials showed a great feasibility for mathematical manipulation to obtain magnetic parameters, such as residual induction, coercive field, permeabilities, and area of a minor loop. This area was traced as a function of the maximum magnetic field applied to the minor loop, and the resulting curve was fitted by using the complementary function of the Hill equation. The fitted Hill parameters were revealed to be correlated with the magnetic hardness of this Alnico II sample. The effectiveness of the analysis performed for the minor loops of the Alnico II sample suggests the universality of this mathematical approach.
