Deep eutectic solvents as sustainable antistatic coating agent for cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine to reduce charge-accumulations

Abstract The charge-accumulation and sensitivity towards external stimuli are the challenging issues for explosives, in which an accidental electrostatic discharge. Deep eutectic solvent (DESs) were used to reduce the tribocharging of energetic materials (EMs). Five DESs were selected to coat on cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine (HMX) as a useful nitramine-based material via the simple wet-mixing. Thoroughly tribocharging measurements of the samples showed a dramatic reduction of charge-accumulation, in which the most charge reduction belonged to Gly-ChCl. Also, our experiments showed that the charge-accumulation decreased from 3600 nC kg−1 to less than 50 nC kg−1 when HMX was coated with only 0.3 wt% of Gly-ChCl.
