1 INTRODUCTION

The year 2020 is unfolding as a year of multiple and never‐ending challenges, and also a year of developing new solutions and strategies to overcome obstacles. One such challenge was how to hold a scientific meeting, a bedrock of scientific societies, when travel is prohibited and social distancing is a must. The Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) chose to hold their biennial meeting, the FORUM, virtually in July 2020. As with most transitions, there were plusses and minuses, and lessons learned for the next time. To review the meeting for this editorial, we interviewed Carmen Sandi PhD, immediate Past President of FENS, Lars Kristiansen PhD, Executive Director of FENS and Jackie Jones from Wiley, publishing house of European Journal of Neuroscience (EJN). EJN is the society journal of FENS.
