I would like to welcome you all to this edition of IJD: International Journal of Diabetes and Metabolism. Diabetes is clearly attracting the major interest of researchers across the globe, and this is reflected in the fact that all the studies published in this issue are diabetes related. However, this comes as no surprise with the continuous rise in global diabetes prevalence. I am delighted that the articles in this issue very much reflect the comprehensive approach required in diabetes. Clearly, prevention of diabetes is crucial, and the study from Nigeria addressing the impact of lifestyle measures in preventing diabetes is an interesting read. Cardiovascular protection in diabetes is nowadays a focus point in the field of diabetes. In this issue, several studies address CVD risk factors in people with diabetes. The current management philosophy of diabetes is to treat the condition with all the risk parameters associated with it rather than a glucose-centric approach. Type 1 diabetes (T1D) articles in this issue are also very important. For approximately 100 years the treatment of T1D was through one agent: insulin. Some recent studies have investigated adjunct therapy for T1D, and this issue includes one similar study on SGLT2I in T1D. Another study examines a common problem of diabetes: treatment adherence. Vitamin D is currently associated with multiple health issues. Gestational diabetes prevalence in our region and globally is getting higher and higher. In this issue, we examine the role of vitamin D supplementation in patients with gestational diabetes mellitus. Finally, I look forward to your future research articles, case reviews, editorials, and letters of communication or abstracts under the new name of the journal: Dubai Diabetes and Endocrinology Journal. We reassure you that the journal editors and team, under the new name, will work hard to match Dubai’s prestige while sustaining the international approach of the journal. Dr. Fatheya F.
