Impact of Swift Heavy Ion (SHI) irradiation is an effective way to tailor the properties of materials to enhance their applicability toward high-end applications. In the present investigation, hydrothermally synthesized Fe-BTC metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) were irradiated with 197Au8+ ion beam, 100 MeV at fluence range of 1 × 1011 ions/cm2 and 1 × 1012 ions/cm2. Hydrothermally synthesized Fe-BTC MOFs were characterized by X-ray diffractometer, UV-Visible spectroscopy, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Raman spectroscopy, and Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). The significant modifications were observed as ion fluence increases, viz. decrease of crystallite size, increase of energy bandgap, reduction in average surface roughness, and the formation of new functional group (C–H) at a higher fluences 1 × 1012 ions/cm2.
