This special issue presents significantly expanded articles based on selected contributions from the International Symposium on Experimental Robotics (ISER 2018), held during November 5–8, 2018 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This is the 16th symposium of the ISER, a series of biennial international symposia. Sponsored by the International Foundation of Robotics Research (IFRR), the goal of ISER symposia is providing a single-track forum for research in robotics that focuses on the novelty of theoretical contributions validated by experimental results.
