WGS reaction empirical kinetics over novel potassium promoted ZnAlLa mixed oxides catalyst

A new empirical kinetics of novel catalyst for high temperature water–gas shift (HT-WGS) at the pressure of 2.5 MPa was developed in the study. Using gradientless reactor a set of kinetics data for catalyst in form of 5 × 5 mm tablet operating at diffusion regime was collected, studied and fitted to classic power-law kinetic equation. Simple power-law equation fits the experimental data with sufficient accuracy. The reaction with respect to CO is close to first order and the apparent activation energy of ca. 51.5 kJ mol−1. The equation is believed to be applicable to modeling of HT-WGS at the temperature in the range of 300–400 °C and the pressure ca. 2.5 MPa corresponding to synthesis gas production for ammonia and methanol plants.
