Infrared attitude measurement method for spinning projectile under snow background

Abstract In order to obtain the attitude of spinning projectile over snow surface, an infrared attitude measurement method for spinning projectile under snow background is proposed. First of all, combining the radiation characteristics of the snow surface and the propagation law of the atmospheric infrared radiation, the relationship between the infrared radiation over snow and the inclination angle to the ground is deduced. Secondly, the infrared attitude measurement model is built on the basis of the rotation characteristics of the projectile. At last, the attitude solution algorithm of spinning projectile is designed. On the basis of the error transfer coefficient, the effects of direct solution algorithm and indirect solution algorithm are analyzed, and the feasibility of the designed solution method is verified by experiment. The results indicate that the pitch angle solution error is within ±1.5° and the roll angle solution error is within −1.5° to 1°, which can provide a good angles estimation for projectile guidance over snow.
