Abstract This review article provides the reader with numerous evidence that 3a,6a-diaza-1,4-diphosphapentalenes are a form of existence of stabilized singlet phosphinidenes. In particular, the oligomerization reactions, addition at the phosphorus atom, and an unusual type of coordination with metals and Lewis acids testify to this. GRAPHICAL ABSTRACT
