Two wheel-shaped Pr(III) and Er(III) complexes with long flexible ligand: Crystal structure, Fluorescence and anticancer studies

Abstract Two wheel-shaped lanthanide complexes, [Pr(L)2•(CH3OH)2]•(NO3)3 (complex 1) and [Er(L)2•(CH3OH)2]•(NO3)3 (compex 2), formed by the long flexible ligand, (L = 1,4-bis[2-(4-pyridyl)ethenyl]benzene), were synthesized and characterized. The interaction of the complexes 1-2 with FS-DNA was explored using UV absorption spectra and fluorescence spectra demonstrating the bind to DNA in partial insertion. The ability of complex 1-2 to react with pBR322 plasmid DNA was confirmed by gel electrophoresis, showing that complex 1 had a better cutting effect. Apoptosis research experiments showed that the complex significantly inhibited the growth of HeLa cells. In addition, MTT analysis evaluated the anticancer ability of the two complexes, and the results showed that complex 1 had a better inhibitory effect on HeLa cells, and molecular docking technology was used to simulate the binding of the complex to DNA.
