Electrothermal Production of Silicon Using Carbon-Containing New-Generation Reducing Agent – Rexil

To reduce the consumption of unprocurable and expensive charcoal or eliminate it from the silicon production process, alternative reducing agents and a silicon smelting technique for reduction furnaces operation are much needed. This article considers the possibility of using a new-generation solid carboncontaining reducing agent, rexil, obtained from non-caking Shubarkol long-flame coal, for the electrothermal production of metal silicon. Using rexil reduces the amount of charcoal in the charge and can also expand the raw material base, as well as preserve the country’s forested areas.
