Abstract Permanent Magnet Motor drives is a widely used technology that offers many advantages, such as exceptional torque control and greater flexibility. Improvement of system reliability and system efficiency has become a heavily researched subject. Considering this research interest and taking into account the major developments in vertical transportation technology over the last several years, the utilization of energy system level performance parameters must be investigated under dynamic loading conditions on elevator systems. This investigation could lead to an enhancement of function and provide the opportunity for the selection of optimum system integration without compromising key safety factors. The primary focus of this work is a methodology to foresee a rigorous experimental outcome with adjustable speed drives along with proto permanent magnet synchronous machines to adopt this new technology easily in different societies, which is a pressing issue for developing countries with various industrial applications. This paper proposes to examine energy efficiency under loading condition and torque prerequisites during disengagement of safety gears. Energy efficiency is also determined under these conditions to understand the force delivered to disengage the safety gears, which would be critical under emergency circumstances to rescue passengers trapped in the elevator.
