In this study, we investigated the degradation of linear alkylbenzene sulfonate (LAS) by an ultraviolet/hydrogen peroxide (UV/H2O2) process. In a collimated beam experiment with UV light of wavelength 222 or 254 nm, faster LAS degradation rates occurred at elevated H2O2 concentrations. The degradation behavior varied with the wavelength of the light source. Furthermore, according to the results of a degradation experiment in a tubular reactor, the reaction rate was faster in the UV/H2O2 process than in the UV-only process.
