Conjugated MEMS Phased Arrays for large field of view random access scanning

Multiple microelectromechanical system (MEMS) phased arrays in optical conjugation enable scanning over extended angular ranges beyond what is possible with a single device. We demonstrate this method for random access beam steering at 250 kHz using a MEMS phased array and a switchable grating modulator, achieving 4,352 resolvable lines from 2,176 line pairs over a field of view (FOV) of ±3.74° in the Fourier plane. With projection optics, this is extended to a far-field FOV of ±24.7° without reduction of the number of resolvable lines.
