Globally distributed mosquitoes play an important role in emerging and resurging infectious diseases in humans. The critical factor affecting vector competence is susceptibility of the vector to viruses, and the ability of midgut epithelial cells to resist viral infection is the main factor determining the susceptibility of mosquitoes to arbovirus infections and is a key index of vector competence.
