Direction Finding of Mixed Fully and Partially Polarized Sources Using Linear COLD Arrays

Abstract We propose a new direction-finding algorithm for the scenario where the fully polarized (FP) and partially polarized (PP) sources may co-exist, by using a linear cocentered orthogonal loop and dipole (COLD) array. The proposed algorithm exploits the root-MUSIC idea to estimate the directions of the PP sources and the FP sources in succession. In between these two estimations, an oblique projection operator is incorporated to separate the FP sources from PP ones. The proposed algorithm is simple, analytic, and search-free. Numerical simulations are conducted to compare the estimation accuracy of the proposed algorithm with that of the existing algorithms, and with the Cramer-Rao Bound (CRB).
