Understanding colour reproduction in multispectral imaging: measuring camera sensor response in the ultraviolet, visible and infrared

ABSTRACT The representation of colour in digital images is based on the response of camera used to capture the image, and how light interacts with the sensor in the respective red, green and blue channels. In Ultraviolet and Infrared, we have no reference for how they should look as we cannot directly observe them. A novel approach for the analysis of how a commercial SLR camera captures colour as a function of wavelength in the UV, visible and IR regions is presented here, along with a discussion on how the optical properties of filtration and sensor construction, impact the images produced.
