A compact CPW-fed wideband slot antenna with reflector for wireless communication

ABSTRACT A compact CPW-fed slot antenna is proposed here. The antenna has a pentagonal patch nested within an asymmetrical slot along with a coplanar waveguide feed. The suggested antenna also has a circular polarization over a wide range. For achieving better performance and to increase the gain of the antenna a single aluminum reflector is used. Results with reflectors of different materials are studied and simulated. The reflector helped to achieve a higher gain, stable radiation pattern, and a good impedance match. The antenna covers an impedance bandwidth of 10.5 GHz and an axial ratio bandwidth of 1.3 GHz allied with a fractional bandwidth of 118%. The simulated result complies with the bandwidth requirements of IEEE 802.11a (5.15–5.35 GHz/5.47–5.725 GHz) for wireless applications.
