Discrete element modeling of bonded soil mixtures under uniaxial compression and indirect tension test

In this study, a discrete element model was developed for cemented soil mixtures using random irregular particle assembly having different micro bond intensities. Micro-scale model parameters were determined from macro properties obtained from laboratory compression test and calibrated based on the actual stress-strain behavior. Calibrated micro properties were used to simulate the indirect tension test of the mixtures. The simulations of DEM presented the defined distribution of tensile, compressive, and shear forces as well as microdamage at different stages of loading. It was found that the prediction of indirect tension test simulation agreed well with the actual stress-strain behavior of soil mixtures.
