Naked-eye 3D display with undistorted imaging system based on human visual system

3D integral imaging (II) has been deemed as a promising technology for a future market in the fields of entertainment and communications. However, the limited depth of field (DOF) hinders the wide application of II technology. In this study, we propose a marginal DOF model and a computation method of optimal viewing resolution, which considers the human visual system (HVS). Firstly, we analyze the causes of distortion based on HVS. Then, we propose the marginal DOF model of undistorted reconstruction in the II system, in which the displacement image points should not exceed the corresponding pixel size of the reconstructed image. Finally, we determine the reconstructed resolution of human vision at the optimal viewing distance based on this proposed DOF model. Compared with the traditional method, the proposed method is more applicable for 3D II technology, as it provides more accurate and realistic computations for DOF and resolutions.
