ABSTRACT The clinical characteristics of 13 patients with Gender Dysphoria (GD) admitted to a mixed gender secure psychiatric hospital for adolescents were analysed. The main finding was that all 13 patients were biologically female but identified as being male, at least some of the time. The clinical characteristics of the patients were very similar to those of female patients admitted to the service without gender identity issues. There are no other published studies of Gender Dysphoria within secure hospitals.
