Wonder is often assumed, without question, to be a good thing. As a response to the world around us, however, wonder is as complex and multifaceted as it is celebrated. This essay attempts to shine a critical light on expressions of wonder that privilege wonder at science and scientific knowledge over and above experiences of wonder in the natural world, as set forth by Richard Dawkins and E. O. Wilson.
