ABSTRACT Eighty-two nest and roosting cavities of Syrian Woodpeckers Dendrocopos syriacus were documented over a period of 25 years (1994–2018). Fourteen different tree species were used, the majority being non-native in Hungary. Cavities were found in both main trunks and in larger limbs. The median cavity height was 3.0 m and ranged from 1 to 7 m. The cavity entrance orientation was non-random with a preference for a south-southeast orientation.
