The quantitative parameters of mantle attachment scars have been studied in freshwater mussel Margaritifera dahurica Middendorff, 1850 (Margaritiferidae, Bivalvia) for the populations of the Amur River (Zabaykalsky krai). It is shown that the density of mantle attachment scars is approximately the same for all shells studied, regardless of their age: an average of 0.72 attachment scars/cm2. According to a two-way analysis of variance, mantle attachment scars are distributed unevenly over the surface of the shell. Their density is the greatest at the caudal and anterial edges. The average diameter of mantle attachment scars for an individual depends on the length of the shell. This dependence can be described by the linear regression equation with a regression coefficient of 0.0012 ± 0.0001. Questions about the possibility of using the measured parameters to identify the species and/or genus of mollusks are discussed.
