Abstract A simple and efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of thioesters from carboxylic acids and thiols using N,N'-diisopropylcarbodiimide (DIC). The reactions were carried out in water as an environmentally friendly and green solvent. The developed procedure presents an economic, efficient, mild, and very simple protocol for thioesterification reaction in aqueous media. Graphical Abstract
