Antibacterial, magnetic, optical and dielectric analysis of novel La2O3 doped ZnO thin films

Abstract ZnO when doped with magnetic or non-magnetic oxides it behaves ferromagnetically. They have great physical significance due to the combination of semiconducting and magnetic properties. Here, we report the synthesis and characterization of La2O3 doped zinc oxide thin films. ZnO thin films with additions of La2O3 were deposited by the sol-gel dip coating method. The films were uniform, compact and transparent. X-ray diffraction spectra confirm hexagonal wurtzite structure. The surface morphology of thin films was granular. All thin films show a normal dielectric dispersion behavior. The AC conductivity was used to explore the barrier height, the hoping distance, and the density of localized states at Fermi level. An increase in the optical band gap with the increase in content of La2O3 dopant was obtained. Films have shown ferromagnetism and strong antibacterial activity against k.pnumenia bacterial strains. So, La2O3 doped zinc oxide can be used to treat pneumonia.
