Nonlinear constitutive relations of thin-walled honeycomb structure

Abstract An analytical model is developed to investigate the in-plane mechanical properties of a thin-walled honeycomb structure. Nonlinear constitutive relations of honeycombs are presented based on in-plane large deformation analysis of a beam; elastic and plastic behaviors are both considered. These relations reflect the dependence of the equivalent stress, equivalent Young's modulus, and equivalent Poisson's ratio on deformation. Numerical simulation results indicate the effectiveness of the proposed method. Paramatric study is then conducted to investigate the effects of structural and material parameters on the honeycomb structure which is valuable for honeycomb structure design.
