Correlation between non-centrosymmetic structure and magnetic properties in Weyl semimetal NdAlGe

Abstract Polycrystalline NdAlGe intermetallic compound has been investigated with structural characterizations and magnetic measurements. NdAlGe consists of alternating stack of Ge3, Al3, and Nd3 isosceles triangles Δ in A layer and Nd3, Ge3, and Al3 reversal isosceles triangles ∇ in B layer along a axis. The non-centersymmetrically structure is built by connecting the rare earth Nd atoms in Nd3 Δ and Nd3 ∇ with inversion symmetry. NdAlGe shows the spin-glass-like characteristics at 9.2 K, which might be due to the coexistence of the ferromagnetic Nd3 Δ↑- Nd3 Δ↑ and antiferromagnetic Nd3 Δ↑and Nd3 ∇↓. χ-T curve follows Van-Vleck paramagnetic model in high temperature regime. The magnetizing process of NdAlGe is complex at various temperatures, and is hardly magnetized in paramagnetic region.
