Disassembling diatom to MCM-22 zeolite using vapor-phase transport synthesis

The MCM-22 zeolite was produced using diatom as the green silica source through the vapor phase transport assisted-synthesis. This study shows that this process is essential as, in classical rotation conditions, only an amorphous material is produced. The diatomite-MCM-22 zeolite catalytic activity was tested in the degradation of low and high-density polyethylene as a probe reaction. The results obtained were similar to those obtained with an MCM-22 synthesized with commercial fumed silica.
