In this issue of Chem, Flood and co-workers demonstrate spatially and electronically isolated cationic dyes in crystalline charge-by-charge ion-pairing systems based on sandwiched [2 + 1]-type anion complexes of a π-electronic cyanostar macrocycle; these dyes exhibit fluorescent colors and intensities similar to those in solution.
