A Novel Modeling Method of Slag Foaming in BOF

Based on the similarity principle, the slag foaming behavior was simulated with the physical modeling method in this investigation. Under the oxygen lance jet, the chemical reaction of NaCO3 powder dispersed in silicon oil with H2SO4 solution to release CO2 gas simulated the carbon-oxygen reaction between the slag and metal in BOF, during which the height was recorded. The slag viscosity and gas amount significantly affected on the slag foaming process and the foaming index.
