Abstract

Composites have been manufactured based on a mixture of calcium phosphates and an alginate-chitosan polyelectrolyte complex (PEC). The properties of these composites can be tuned by varying the filler/matrix ratio and drying temperature, so these materials may be regarded as potentially usable in orthopedics and traumatology. The composition and morphology of the manufactured samples and their dynamic dissolution have been studied. The embedding of a powder material into the PEC matrix does not change the matrix composition, but increases the resorption rate of the sample. Optimal synthetic conditions have been chosen for the composites, namely, the filler/matrix ratio and the drying temperature and time.
