Development of an Approach to Forcast the Defect Formation in the End of a Weld Joint Based on the Modeling of Heat Processes

Abstract—The article covers the challenges of forecasting the appearance of a defective zone at the end of a weld joint and determining its size based on the simulation results. The research has been carried out to determine the influence of the heat reflection from the edges on basic characteristics of the joint (geometric dimensions of the weld, mechanical properties of the joint). A mathematical model of heat distribution is presented with regard to the influence of workpiece edges and based on it the regression equations are established to determine the dimensions change of the weld, which made it possible to forecast the dimensions of the defective zone. An algorithm for selecting welding modes, taking into account the influence of heat reflection, based on a mathematical model, is presented, and its practical implementation is examined.
