This issue of the European Journal of Neurology is devoted to manuscripts on SARS‐CoV‐2 infection. Who could have expected this 1 year ago? The outbreak was first identified in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. The World Health Organization declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on January 30, then a pandemic on March 11. Most people heard of this new viral infection for the first time in January 2020, and up to July 19 when this editorial was written, 28,811 publications with the terms “SARS‐CoV‐2”, or “COVID‐19”, or “New coronavirus” in the title were listed in PubMed.
