Duration of Periods of Temperature Decreasing in the Wake of a Time-Discrete Flow of Water Droplets Moving through High-Temperature Gases

Abstract

Experimentally obtained ranges of decreasing of temperature of combustion products after pulsed injection of an aerosol consisting of fine water droplets and time intervals with reduced (as compared to the initial) temperature of gases are presented. Fast-response thermocouples and panoramic optical methods of tracer visualization are applied. To ensure the possibility of using the experimental results in a large group of gas-vapor-droplet applications, the experiments are performed with variations of the basic parameters of the examined process of water aerosol mixing with the opposing flow of heated gases: initial temperature and velocity of the gas flow, droplet size, initial temperature and velocity of water aerosol injection, number and duration of pulsed injection events. The results are generalized to be used in gas-vapor-droplet technologies of fire fighting and high-temperature water purification based on evaporation of various impurities.
