Magnetic nanofluid based on amorphous Fe-Ni-B@OA particles applied in the treatment of oil slick

ABSTRACT

In this work, amorphous Fe-Ni-B magnetic nanoparticles were synthesized, and oleic acid (OA) was used to improve the hydrophobic and oleophilic performance. The core-cell Fe-Ni-B@OA particles were used to prepare magnetic nanofluids to effectively remove oil slicks. The results of X-ray and electron diffractions show that the samples were spherical amorphous particles with 10~13 nm diameters. The Fe-Ni-B@OA nanoparticles were found to have good coating effects of OA with a saturation magnetization of 59 emu/g. The oil removal ability of the magnetic nanofluid performed well without secondary pollution and more than 90.6% of the oil slicks could be recovered after three repeated experiments. The prepared Fe-Ni-B@OA magnetic nanofluid demonstrates broad potential in water surface oil slick treatment.
