Abstract

Nanocomposite polyester fabrics (NCPFs) with in situ generated copper nanoparticles (CuNPs) were prepared using tamarind leaf extract as a reducing agent and different concentrated aq.CusO4·5H2O as source solutions. These fabrics were analyzed by SEM, FTIR spectroscopy, XRD, and antibacterial tests. SEM analysis indicated the in situ generation of roughly spherical CuNPs in the size range of 58–154 nm with an average of 90 nm. X-ray analysis indicated the generation of both CuNPs and Cu2O nanoparticles in the NCPFs. The NCPFs exhibiting antibacterial activity against both the Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria can be considered for medical applications.
